Why do we make a big deal of Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, but don’t think twice about Thanksgiving’s Eve?

A story about my father
Posted in Family on November 26, 2008 | Leave a Comment »
(as told by my uncle)
We were visiting relatives in Minnesota. After the church service we attended, we arrived at the restaurant where we planned to eat lunch. While walking to our table, my father noticed on elderly man eating by himself. Then, he noticed that the man had a veteran’s cap on, signifying that he had served overseas [...]
Every man

I have had some time for reading while I’ve been visiting relatives up here in frigid Minnesota. The Liberty of Obedience, by Elisabeth Elliot Gren has been my book of choice.
I came across this important passage last evening:
Every man is ultimately concerned with something. He has given is heart, his allegiance, to something–set his direction.
I [...]

I’ve been so busy, I haven’t had any time to post! On Thursday, my mom, sister, and I left for Minnesota to spend a week with our relatives up here. We’ve been having a very nice time the past few days!
Yesterday we went to see The Boy in the Striped Pajamas in a theater. I can’t [...]
A miracle

I watched a miracle unfold this morning. It was not at all an unusual event, nevertheless, it was a miracle; a beautiful miracle.
I watched, as a small glimmer of pinkish-purple peeked over the horizon.
I watched, as it grew, grew, grew, all the while deepening in richness and glory.
I watched, as the colors shot up and up, and out, [...]
The Paquettes

While driving through the neighborhood in North Minneapolis where my mom and her three siblings grew up, we drove by the house where their old neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Paquette, used to live. Now Mr. and Mrs. Paquette (pronounced Paw-Ket) had four daughters:
the oldest was Nanette Paquette,
then came Georgette Paquette,
next was Lorette Paquette,
and lastly, Paulette Paquette.
When I [...]
Life–the kind that lasts

At church yesterday, a man recited John 3:16 in Palaka, and language used in a certain portion of West Africa. The literal, word-for-word English translation of the Palaka translation went like this:
“World, it came, and God really pleased. For this reason, He has one Son sent, so that the one who believed on him, he would [...]

We went to a wedding today, and just got back a little while ago. The wedding was beautiful, and the couple was so sweet.
The father of the groom (we know the groom’s family well) came up to Micah Noel and I said some really touching things. I don’t quote, but this is the gist of what [...]

‘Tis sweet to trust Him
Posted in Devotions, HeartThoughts, Music, Seasons on November 6, 2008 | 5 Comments »
This election did not turn out like many Christians had hoped. Even though I personally was not an avid McCain/Palin supporter and I never really expected them to win, I can empathize with the dissapointment and confusion many now face. It can be hard to believe that God is still good. It can be hard to believe that He knows best. It can [...]
Whatever happens…

Just as a deer runs to water,
So does my heart to You, Father.
It is the Lord that I trust in, not in governments, presidents, or possesions, but in HIM. In His grace and mercy and goodness, and in the knowledge that “this world is not my home, I’m just a-passin’ through.”
Whatever happens tonight, it [...]
