Late Thursday night we recieved some very sad, shocking news. Luke Edward Hausmann, the son of our dear friends, David and Karen Hausmann, stepped into the presence of his Lord and Savior shortly before 10:00 PM Thursday night. Luke, with three of his seven siblings, Anna (20), Ethan (19), and my good friend Julia (16), was traveling home from visiting family in Waco, TX.
A Waco news website had this to say:
(January 11, 2008)—The accident happened just before 10:00pm Thursday, on Interstate 35 in Bellmead near Loop 340.
Police say two tires from the wheels of a south-bound 18-wheeler trailer came off of the rig and crossed the median. One of the tires struck a north-bound Honda Accord. The impact apparently had enough force to cut the passenger compartment of the vehicle in half.
The driver of the Honda, 23-year-old Luke Hausmann, of Atchison, Kansas, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other passengers, ages 16, 19 and 20, were all taken to a local hospital. One of the passengers is still listed in critical condition.
DPS closed the interstate, diverting all traffic to the access roads while emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage.
Other details were not immediately available.
Luke was a kind, quiet young man, who was dedicated to serving the Lord overseas. He made many extended missions trips to Cambodia, Thailand, and other places. He loved the Lord wholeheartedly.
We have known the Hausmanns for years. They are an extremely caring, cheerful, energetic family.
When we heard this news, we were shocked into the realization of the fragility of life.
The time we think we’ll always have to be right with others,
to be right with God.
The time we think we’ll always have to serve God,
to be kind to our siblings.
But this time can be taken away in the blink of an eye.
He was there, and then he was gone.
Are you who He wants you to be?

I will pray for for his family!
Your story reminds me of another person who died very suddenly. Friends of ours now this man, who owns a bookstore they go to. Last week, he didn’t feel welland as his wife was driving him to the hospital, he died. If you could keep his family in your prayers, and also my aunt and her brothers, who just lost their father to cancer this past Friday, they would be greatly appreciated.
I’m sorry Bryant! I didn’t know you knew them. :(
Is the photo of the car, his car?
I’ll be praying. Thanks for the reminder of how short our lives can be…
So sorry to hear that…so young…!
Thanks for the reminder as well. How important it is to be close to the Lord always…in good times as well as in bad times like these. Will be praying as well.
Andreu
I’m praying for you, Bryant. I know that this is a huge shock to your family.
Love you,
~Elizabeth
Oh, how sad! I’m praying for you, your family and Luke’s family. How are his siblings doing?

Aliisa:
Ethan has a broken nose, and some teeth knocked out, but he is in stable condition.
Anna suffered head trauma and a serious eye injury, which may cause total or partial blindness in that eye. She also has not been responsive after aenesthesia (sp?) from her eye surgery Friday morning.
Julia, my dear friend, is doing fine, but has numerous scratches and cuts on her face from the glass.
Thank you for your prayers, everyone!
Wow, I will be praying for that family! What a terrible situation.
This was a good reminder. We need to be ready every day for the end. I’ll be praying.
we never really know when our time is. it sounds like Luke was ready and would want his family to keep growing towards the Lord. I will pray for all of those involved.
My heart goes out to you, my dear, and your friends. I trust the Lord’s grace will so ever abound and His peace will super-exceed all that could ever be imagined!
Much love, my dear sister!
You’re welcome!
I’ve known the Hausmanns for years, and it was such a shock to learn what happened. The entire family needs prayers so much right now.
Oh my, what a tragedy! Wow, that is so sad. My heart goes out to his family, friends and loved ones, and to you as well. It’s so hard to lose someone you know and love so suddenly. ((((HUGS)))) Praying for all of you!
How awful! I will pray for this family! Thank you for turning this into a ministy opportunity, and such a powerful challenge. Just the sight of that broken car is enough to make just about anyone think hard.
I met the entire Hausmann family during the summer of 2006 while visiting them at their house overlooking the Missouri River. I was taken with the spirit and vitality of everyone. The hospitality extended to me, my wife and son was extrodinary.
As a parent, my heart truly goes out to the Hausmann’s. As has been said, we never know what the next moment holds, and this is all the more reason to be thankful for each day, and to be a friend and resource to those who need our support.
hey! hope your being the more encourged- i’m sorry to hear of this… i don’t know the family but i’m prayin’ for you all-
Psalms 62:5-8!! i found it encouraging in a hard time of my life and i’m sure you can too! Praise Him for the gift of Eternal life!! In Him,
Izzy
I’m very sorry to hear this. How sad! I was almost crying and I don’t even know them!
But praise the Lord that he’s now where no more death, tears, or pain is!
This reminded me of a verse I read in my quiet time today, “LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am.”
I’ll pray for the family.
Thank you for commenting on my blog. I did use music for my offeratory. It was by Faye Lopez, from The Wilds.
